Qualification for Membership
7. a. Active Registered Membership
Any person who is actively engaged in Cardio-Pulmonary technology in the medical and/or closely related fields shall be eligible for election as an active registered member providing that:
i. Such a person has had suitable training in a cardiovascular and/or pulmonary laboratory and has not had less than one year of appropriate experience in a laboratory approved by the Board of Directors and has passed a registry examination set by the examination committee and approved by the Medical Technical Advisory Board of the Association.
ii. Such a member is in good standing with a similar association with qualifications approved by the Board of Directors and has passed a registry examination set by the examination committee and approved by the Medical/Technical Advisory Board of the Association.
7b. Inactive Registered Members
Any person who is an Active Registered member of the Association and ceases to be actively engaged in Cardio-Pulmonary technology and/or closely related fields shall be reclassified as an Inactive Registered member.
7c. Honourary Member
Any person shall be eligible for election as an Honourary member providing that:
i. Honourary membership is awarded by a vote of the Board of Directors to those who by their exceptional contributions to the Society have significantly aided in its growth and development.
7d. Student/Registration Eligible Members
Any person who is in the course of preparation and training with the objective of active membership status shall be eligible for election as a student registration/eligible member provided that:
i. such a person has attained the age of eighteen (18) years
ii. such a person possesses at least the minimum education level requirements set by the Board of Directors of the Association. Such requirements are: B.Sc., Bachelors of Science, in physiology, biology, kinesiology or equivalent as decided by the education committee; Bioscience diploma (two (2) year program); Major Medical technologies (two (2) year program); Registered Nurse (minimum two (2) year program). All technologists must have registered status.
iii. Is receiving training satisfactory to the education committee
iv. Any Student/Registration eligible member who fails to achieve active registered status after three (3) attempts at the Association registry examination will cease to be a student/registration eligible member and if wishing to support the Association can become a supporting member
7e. Supporting Member
Any person other than one who could qualify as an active registered member and who is directly interested in or associated with the practice of medicine or Cardio-Pulmonary technology and is, in the opinion of the Board of Directors, eligible for election as a supporting member, if he desires to support the objectives of the Association with participation in such membership privileges as herein after defined.
The above are examples of guidelines used by the Board of Directors and the guidelines do not in any way limit the discretionary powers of the Board with respect to qualification, training time limits before examination, etc.
