CACPT Continuing Professionalism Program

About the Program

1. Each Registered Active CACPT Member and Student/Registry Eligible Member is required to complete the CACPT Continuing Professionalism Program as outlined below:

In one calendar year, each Registered Active and Student/Registry Eligible Member must complete and document a minimum of 12 credits, from at least three categories.

  • Continuing Education:  1 hour = 1 credit

Example: webinar, journal article, lecture.

  • Workplace Activity:  1 hour = 1 credit

Example: lunch & learn, grand rounds, staff workshop.

  • Volunteering/CACPT business:  4 hours = 2 credits

Example: CACPT committee or meetings, Lung Association, Heart and Stroke Foundation.

  • Preceptorship:  4 hours = 2 credits

Example: CACPT students, medical students, demonstrations, teaching.

  • Advanced Continuing Education:  each full day = 4 credits or 1 credit per lecture

Example:  Spirotrec, COPD education, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, conference.

    2. A checkbox is included on the Membership Renewal form.  By checking the box, the member indicates that they have completed the Continuing Professionalism Program Log.

    • If a member has not checked the checkbox, they will be contacted directly and are required to supply their Continuing Professionalism Program log.  If they cannot or will not supply their log the board reserves the right to suspend their membership until a log is provided.

    • The membership chair will review the Continuing Professionalism Program log.
      • If it is deemed that the log is insufficient, and the member cannot or will not supply any other Continuing Professionalism Program log, the board reserves the right to suspend their membership until a log is provided.

    3. Annual audits of at least 5 random Members will be completed by the membership chair.

        • Members will be chosen at random from the membership list.
        • Members will be required to submit their Continuing Professionalism Program log via email to the membership chair within one month of notification.  The one month period may be extended at the discretion of the membership chair.
          • If member cannot or will not supply their log the board reserves the right to suspend their membership until a log is provided.
        • The membership chair will review the Continuing Professionalism Program log.
          • If it is deemed that the log is insufficient, and the member cannot or will not supply any other Continuing Professionalism Program log, the board reserves the right to suspend their membership until a log is provided
